Job Summary:

Operates and maintains the wastewater treatment system under the direction of the Senior Lab Technician, Chemist, Plating Supervisor and/or Plating Manager. Understands and uses automatic controls for the system. Operates treatment system in accordance with Manufacturing Process Specifications (MPS) to meet established wastewater discharge limits. Utilizes inspection equipment such as pH meter, AA machine, etc. to maintain quality standards.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

* Responsible for directing the workload for the daily schedule and follow priority requirements.
* Responsible for the use and handling of chemicals for the treatment of waste water.
* Responsible for the operation of Ion Exchange Unit (Hydromatrix)
* Operates and maintains wastewater treatment system in accordance with process specifications to meet wastewater discharge limits of L.A. County Sanitation Districts.
* Responsible for handling hazardous waste generated
* Operates (A.A.) Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer
* Understands and uses controls for the system. Makes manual adjustments as required to maintain water quality standards.
* Neutralizes spent chemicals and affixes correct label.
* Responsible for completing daily work-related forms as instructed by Mgmt.
* Responsible for cleaning and maintaining filter press as instructed by Mgmt.
* Responsible for performing batch treatment of wastewater.
* Posts all required process control data.
* Rinses empty drums and affix correct label prior to placing them in designated storage area.
* Provides training for lower level Wastewater Treatment Operators.
* Maintains clean and organized work area while performing assigned duties in a manner consistent with all company safety/environmental regulations.
* Performs all other duties and functions as assigned or required.

Physical Demands:

* This position uses a computer terminal to access, input, and retrieve data.

* This position may be subject to frequent or occasional interruptions which may cause a change in immediate priorities and/or work focus.
* May require the occasional lifting or moving of items in excess of 40 pounds.
* May require irregular or extended work hours.
* May be subject to loud noises
* Regularly handle hazardous materials and chemicals.

Skills and/or Experience Needed:

* Minimum two years experience in Plating operations or equivalent work environment.
* Ability to use calipers, micrometers, thread gages and X-ray machines.
* Ability to read and interpret blueprints with limited assistance from Plating Supervisor

* Demonstrated ability to work proactively and independently.

Language Skills:

* Must communicate effectively, both written and verbal, to employees at all levels and with outside vendors and customers as needed.
* Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Reasoning Ability:

* Must be able to apply common sense in carrying out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
