General Summary:

Wherever polyurethane is involved, AccellaTM has the significant technical application experience to get the job done.

We are seeking an innovative Sr. Chemist-Coatings.  The candidate will be responsible for R&D projects covering Poly- Roof coatings products. The product line includes elastomeric one component moisture cure RTV coatings both with and without solvents. Coating chemistry includes but is not limited to Silicone and Acrylics. The position will work closely with other R&D Chemists and Technicians to create a comprehensive product portfolio of products for the roofing industry. This positon will be part of the Accella Spray Polyurethane foam business located in Cartersville, Georgia and report to the Technical Director. 

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • New product development
  • Scope, design and execute product performance improvement projects
  • Hands-on formulation development for new and existing Silicone coating products
  • Tailoring products and formulations for unique customer specifications
  • Support Manufacturing and Quality functions with customer discovery and problem solving processes
  • Developing and implementation of quality control specifications and standards
  • Project management and documentation including laboratory notebook documentation and project report writing
  • Strong laboratory skills required including both scientific practices and housekeeping
  • Mentoring and coaching junior level Chemists in the department


 Job Specifications:

  • Masters/Bachelors of Science in Chemistry (or related technical discipline) is preferred.  Candidates with other relevant industry experience will be considered.
  • Experience working with variations of silicone roof coatings, silicone sealants or acrylic roof coatings is required
  • Minimum 5 years hands-on formulation and lab experience in product development/application is desirable
  • Knowledge and experience in Structure-property relationship of polymers and additives with respect to formulating products
  • Interaction with external certification agencies such as Factory Mutual, Underwriters Laboratories, NSF and other is desired
  • Emittance, Reflectance, Weathering, UV stability  experience is preferred
