SUMMARY - We are actively seeking a slitter and cut-to-length machine assistant for our Elkridge, MD facility.  Responsibilities include assisting in the set up and operation of coil slitting, cut-to-length equipment and packaging line in a safe, timely and productive manner.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Pull and prepare master coils for processing on the slit line.
  • Manage master coil storage to maximize accessibility and floor space.
  • Assist in threading material through the various pieces of equipment in preparation for processing.
  • Follow daily manufacturing schedules pulling and staging materials to minimize change over and down times.
  • Operate packaging line palletizing steel and aluminum sheet and coil.
  • Learn to mount and set slitter knives, spacers, and guide discs for various specified coil widths, including adjusting knife clearances and vertical/horizontal gapping.
  • Learn to make adjustments using observation, monitoring feedback equipment, gauges and hand tools.
  • Assist operator in perform quality checks to verify proper lengths, widths, weights and paint finish are within specification throughout the run.
  • As a team with the operator achieve production goals while complying with safety, company rules and requirements.
  • Other duties maybe assigned.

  • Must be able to operate a fork lift; training will be provided if necessary.
  • Highly motived self-starter with good sound work ethic, able to be clean neat and organized while working.
  • Must demonstrate safe working practices, attention to detail, cleanliness and accuracy.
  • Good communication, organization, and time management skills are important.
  • Must be willing to learn and become proficient at the operation of metal processing equipment.
  • Basic computer knowledge, mathematics (basic calculator), with the ability to problem solve.
  • Ability to use rulers, tapes, calipers, and other measuring equipment.
  • Must be a team player able to follow instructions with a can-do attitude.
  • Perform maintenance on equipment, to ensure safety standards and protocols are upheld at all times.
  • Flexible to the possibility of overtime or split shift when required.

  • Ability to read documents and interpret facts and draw conclusions.
  • Perform basic mathematical computations, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • Minimum high school education.
  • Basic computer knowledge including at least one-year experience with email, Word, and Excel.

  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time; minimum 8-hour shift.
  • Ability to walk on level concrete surfaces.
  • Ability to bend, twist, and lift minimum of 75 lbs. will be required; utilizing proper lifting techniques at all times.
  • Ability to routinely get on and get off fork lifts as needed.
  • The environment is a fast-paced metal processing environment where personal protection equipment is used, these is not limited to steel toe boots, hearing and eye protection, and cut resistant gloves/arm guards.
  • In the warehouse there may be times where the ambient temperature and increased noise levels may fluctuate.
