 General Summary:

Accella Polyurethane Systems is seeking a Quality Control Chemist for spray foams.  The candidate will be responsible for quality control covering a variety of wall insulation and roofing spray polyurethane chemistry.  The position will work closely with R&D, field service and manufacturing technicians to maintain the highest quality for all products. This position will be part of the Accella Polyurethane business located in Spring, TX and report to the Technical Director. 

 

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Operate lab QC testing equipment and perform troubleshooting as needed
  • Test and approve incoming raw materials
  • Perform QC on both open cell and closed cell polyurethane foams
  • Investigate product quality concerns
  • Maintain files of Safety Data Sheets and Certificates of Analysis for raw materials
  • Bias toward action with ability to work independently as needed
  • Attention to detail with clear and complete documentation skills
  • Strong laboratory skills desired with ability to follow written procedures
  • Ability to work as a key part of a diverse teams
  • Must be able to multitask and prioritize work
  • Must maintain a clean work area and employ good housekeeping practice
  • Support Manufacturing, Quality, Sales and Product Management functions
  • Operation of analytical, mechanical property and chemical processing equipment
  • Develop and implement quality control specifications and standards across business locations
  • Project management and documentation including laboratory notebook documentation and project report writing
  • Strong laboratory skills required including both scientific practices andhousekeeping
  • Manage external agency audits, witnessed batches and certification compliance

 

Job Specifications:

  • Bachelors of Science in Chemistry (or related technical discipline) is preferred.  Candidates with other relevant industry experience may be considered
  • 5 or more years lab experience in QC manufacturing environment
  • Polyurethane foam formulation experience is required
  • Spray foam product development/application is desirable
  • Understanding of polymer chemistry and structure property relationships
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Hands on work ethic with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must be a self-starter and demonstrate a strong bias toward action
  • Experience in data collection, manipulation and analysis

  • Must be able to pass respirator fit test and medical evaluation
  • Medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects, and occasionally up to 75lbs.
  • Ability to work on your feet for long periods of time
  • Ability to use hands and arms to lift and reach overhead, push, pull ,  grasp
  • Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl
  • Ability to hear at normal speaking levels, talking and ability to exchange ideas
  • Required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment, regularly utilizes depth perception, peripheral vision and close focus
  • Subject to environmental conditions, both hot and cold, inside and outside weather conditions
  • Subject to hazards, including a variety of physical conditions and proximity to moving mechanical parts and atmospheric conditions that may affect the respiratory system
