Job Description

The Process Engineer will be primarily responsible for managing process support for the designated plant. This includes functions such as process improvement, product and process trouble shooting, process standardization, assisting in qualifying new products and responsibility for qualifying new processes and equipment in the plant. The Process Engineer will also be responsible for implementing and maintaining process standardization upgrades in the plants with ownership of related documents.  This position is the critical link between Operations, the R&D group, Quality Services, Central Engineering and the other plants to ensure that processing conditions and parameters associated with manufacturing and assembling quality processes and products are properly implemented.  This may encompass creating proper processing specifications, standard works, root cause investigation for product quality complaints and systemic quality issues arising out of processing conditions, data manipulation, and training. Other responsibilities include maintaining and improving manufacturing cost, ensuring optimal process conditions for our processes and assisting in all cost reduction initiatives. The Process Engineer will use sound chemical and process engineering principles and techniques across multiple disciplines with focus on Polyisocyanurate and Polyurethane processing and chemistry.  The Engineer will work with the Production Manager, R&D Chemists, other Engineers and technically trained personnel, and will report to the designated Plant Manager.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage product troubleshooting, standardization, improvement. Implement and maintain product standards for existing products, using standardized operating procedures and statistical process control.
  • Improve Product Quality; aesthetic and in-plant physical property performance.
  • Cost Reduction Initiatives.
  • Assist in new product/process integration and standardization.Work with R&D and Engineering to integrate new products and technologies.
  • Address and manage product quality related issues at the plant and assist R&D and quality services on systemic quality issues
  • Attend process / equipment trade shows to stay current with the latest technologies
  • Interact with other plants to share best practices on process and equipment upgrades and modifications. Some travel required.
  • Train production personnel on process standardization and maintain all process related documents.

Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Chemical Engineering is preferred. Will also consider BS in Chemistry or other Engineering disciplines.
  • Prior experience in process engineering or R&D  in the chemical manufacturing industries are preferred.
  • Ability to travel up to 30%
  • Experience in ERP system, SAP preferred
  • Experience with WonderWare, SFIS, Minitab
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with statistical process control techniques
  • Technical Knowledge:

 •             Polyisocyanurate/ Polyurethane science and chemistry.

•              Polyiso foam lamination/ continuous processing

•              Facer and other lamination technology

•              Engineering principles related to insulation and roofing.

•              General building and roofing construction.

•              Testing techniques for insulation and roofing systems.
