Job Description

Ultimate RB, a Carlisle Company, is a leading manufacturer of recycled rubber products and one of the largest and most technically advanced tire recyclers in the world.  Our Delphos, Ohio plant specializes in high quality customized rolled rubber products.  We are seeking a Plant Engineer/Maintenance Manager for its facility in Delphos, OH.  

The primary function of the Plant Engineer/Maintenance Manager is timely project implementation, improve process efficiency, the conception, design and development of new products and evaluate the processes and flows of production for efficiency. They will also direct and manage the maintenance staff, programs and processes, typically under the direction of the Plant Manager in order to ensure safe, timely and efficient operation of all plant machinery and equipment.  This is a field intensive roll, requires solid comprehension on the floor and can merge with graphics communication software.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Direct Supervision – Provide leadership for maintenance personnel in a manner that fosters their continued growth and development
  • Communicate job expectations
  • Address personnel matters in a timely manner
  • Supports the implementation of company policies, procedures
  • Track absenteeism and timekeeping along with issuing write-ups as required
  • Recognize personnel that are consistently meeting or exceeding expectations
  • Ensure annual performance reviews are completed for all personnel
  • Maintains all aspects of the plant, including facilities, equipment, vehicles and production vessels
  • Ensures that periodic and preventative maintenance are appropriately scheduled and accomplished, and that emergency troubleshooting and maintenance support are readily available as needed
  • Plans, budgets and schedules facility and plant equipment modifications, including cost estimates
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, industry and company safety standards/laws. Inform and collaborate with plant management on problems, issues or hazards
  • Safety & Health – monitor the equipment, working conditions and methods utilized by shift personnel to ensure that plant safety standards are adhered to
  • Timely report any safety concerns and perform incident investigations
  • Ensure and maintain the efficient operation of plant equipment and cleanliness of plant along with adherence to quality standards
  • Cost Control/Project Development – Assist Plant Manager in establishing and controlling budgets for the production areas.  Initiate and assist in developing and implementing projects to ensure objectives of the plant are met.  Serve as an active participant in COS-        related activities and help drive the continuous improvement process throughout the plant.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Essential Full Performance Knowledge:
    • Knowledge of product processing techniques, quality specifications and plant policies and procedures.
    • Understanding of union-free and participative management techniques.
    • Knowledge of supervisory/leadership approaches and general business knowledge.
    • Working knowledge of the performance appraisal process, timekeeping system and requirements, job evaluation system and inventory management system.
  • Essential Full Performance Skills:
    • Personal computer skills, as well as a working ability to utilize standard programs such as Word, Excel, Power Point, ERP, SAP, ADP, Auto Desk, Solid Works
    • Oral and written communication skills, including the ability to speak in front of groups and make effective presentations.

    • Good organizational skills, along with effective time management.

  • Equipment Operated:  Computer/printer, copier, scanner, calculator, security system, telephone system, automobiles, fork truck, audio-visual devices and all production equipment.
  • Data Used:  Expense budgets, ERP information, safety and regulatory reports, attendance reports, ACE forms and justifications, timekeeping records, personnel reports, quality reports and processing specifications.
  • Materials Used:  Exposure to materials used in the manufacture of synthetic rubber.
  • Interactions with Others:  This position will interact with a variety of professional and hourly personnel daily, including Managers, other supervisors, Production Lead Operators, Maintenance personnel, Engineers, Quality, the Central Engineering group, vendors,    contracted workers and office support personnel.

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • Education:  Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (preferred)
  • Experience: 
    • 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment (required)
    • 2 years of related supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment (required)
    • Background in plant layout and automation, project development and manufacturing quality preferred
    • Knowledge of manufacturing methods and procedures.
    • Lean Six-Sigma experience a plus
    • Skilled in using Auto CAD and Solid Works

Work Environment/Time Worked:

  • Work Environment:  Activities occur inside an industrial facility that manufactures rubber flooring and EPDM.  20% of the time is spent in an office environment, which is relatively clean and climate controlled.  80% of the time may be spent in production areas where there can be exposure to:
    • Heat or cold
    • Dust
    • Chemicals
    • Heavy equipment operation, including forklifts
    • Pinch points and moving mechanical parts
  • The work can be fast-paced, and stressful at times.  Priorities change quickly, and the person must be able to adapt and prioritize appropriately.  The use of proper PPE is required, including steel toed shoes, hearing protection, eye protection.
  • Time Worked:  8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  There are daily Production Meeting at 8:30 a.m. and 4:20 p.m. and a weekly Supervisor Meeting on Thursdays at 3:30 p.m.  Special projects and events may require modified scheduling in order to attend meetings and assist with projects on other shifts.

Physical Requirements:

  • Sitting at a desk and in meetings, standing to observe subordinates and production-related issues, walking in order to inspect products and move from area to area, lifting of 55 lbs when training employees or when assisting in work areas, stooping to look at defects, bending to inspect areas of equipment at floor level, climbing onto and into machines for operational troubleshooting after ensuring proper lock-out/tag-out procedures have been followed, crawling to gain access to equipment at floor level, hearing and sight to make observations, train others and communicate with personnel.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has full supervisory responsibilities for 7 people.  Tasks include participate in interview and selection process for new employees, assist with setting goals and objectives, conduct performance appraisals, train, assign and delegate tasks, coach and lead indirect employees, influence outside support resources, and administer disciplinary action.
