An immediate opening for an experienced Microfabrication Engineer to provide process development and integration support for our photolithography related modules. This high impact position reports to the Process Engineering Manager and responsibilities broadly include meeting equipment availability, throughput, quality, and cost targets for the photolithography modules. As a key member of the engineering team and working closely with counterparts on the operations team, the primary objective of a process engineer is to institutionalize the key skills and microfabrication knowledge base by generating tangible work products including process window experiments, process control plans, validation reports, SOPs, training plans, and other process characterization and control information.

The Microfabrication Process Engineer is a key resource on the MicroConnex engineering team and is responsible for unit process development and manufacturing support. This position will initially focus on the photoresist application, photoresist exposure, and photoresist development process modules.


* Provide technical leadership in photolithography process modules in development of new processes and in support of manufacturing using existing tools and processes.
* Develop capital equipment requirements, create specifications for new equipment, evaluate vendors/suppliers, make procurement recommendations and manage equipment install and qualification processes.
* Characterize operational space and develop process control plans for photolithography modules.
* Develop continuous improvement plans for existing processes and support equipment and process road-maps to meet company strategic plan.
* Define SQDC (Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost) metrics for photolithography modules and work with manufacturing staff (engineering and technicians) to implement and track.
* Work closely with manufacturing staff to ensure documentation of process instructions and implement process control plans and procedures in manufacturing.
* Support manufacturing engineering and operations management to develop, coordinate, and implement technical training for operations staff.
* Support and champion company policies and procedures including ISO requirements and Environmental, Health and Safety plans and adhere to the MicroConnex quality management system framework and operational model.

* Excellent written and oral communication skills with demonstrated ability to effectively communicate specialized technical information to both subject and non-subject matter experts.
* Ability to work independently and cross-functionally to meet company and departmental objectives.
* Results and documentation-oriented work philosophy with high attention to detail and desire to grow.
* Skilled in root cause analysis using structured problem solving tools and approaches (e.g. FMEA, fishbone diagrams, Five Why's, etc.).
* Skilled in multi-parameter experimental design and execution using both specially designed test vehicles and production lots.
* Hands on experience using process data, interpretation and statistics tools such as Minitab or JMP.
* Experience with application of statistical process control (SPC) methodologies in a manufacturing environment.
* Demonstrated use and understanding of good manufacturing practices (GMP) in a microfabrication environment.
* Demonstrated track record of utilizing basic project management skills for delivery of defined initiatives or customer requests.

* Hands-on experience with photolithography process development, process control and equipment operation including application, exposure and development on flexible and rigid substrate platforms.
* Experience with multiple resist coating technologies including dry film roll lamination, liquid spin coating and screen print or similar.
* Fundamental knowledge of photochemistry and exposure physics for typical positive and negative tone resist formulations used to pattern metals in both subtractive and additive processing.
* Familiar with capabilities and limitations of industry standard exposure tools including aligners, steppers and direct write (e.g. laser) systems.
* Understanding of key process interactions between resist formulation, application method, critical dimensions and developer process parameters (chemistry, hydrodynamics, time/temp, etc.).
* Working knowledge of basic financial metrics for standard lithography processes (i.e. understanding of cost drivers).
* Experience in specification of equipment, vendor evaluation, procurement recommendation and equipment qualification; working knowledge of DQ/IQ/OQ/PQ process is a plus.
Special consideration will be given to candidates with experience developing and/or supporting any of the following microfabrication processes:

* Electrodeposition of common conductor materials including copper, nickel and gold
* Thin film deposition of metals, metal alloys, oxides and/or dielectrics via vacuum processes including sputter, CVD, PECVD, evaporation or ALD
* Wet or dry (plasma) chemical etching of metals and/or dielectrics
* Laser ablation for micromachining polymeric, metal, ceramic or similar substrates
* Substrate cleaning processes including common wet cleans and plasma cleans
* Lamination or bonding of microelectronic packages or sub-assemblies
*Other duties as required in support of the department and the company

BS in chemical engineering or materials science, MS or PhD preferred. Applicants with degrees in other engineering disciplines, physics and/or chemistry will be considered with sufficient relevant industrial experience.
3+ years in printed circuit fabrication shop (flex or rigid) or 2+ years in MEMs, printed/plastic electronics or IC fabrication environment (working in a clean room a plus) with direct experience developing and/or supporting thin film microfabrication manufacturing processes at development or production scale.
EXPERIENCE (Preferred)
10+ years in printed circuit fabrication shop (flex or rigid) or 5+ years in MEMs printed/plastic electronics or IC fabrication environment (working in a clean room a plus) with direct experience developing and/or supporting thin film microfabrication manufacturing processes at development or production scale. Experience as both fab process engineer and fab integration engineer a plus.
