Summary of: R&D Manager



The Research and Development Manager position requires an analytical and logical person with strong leadership skills to collaborate with Manufacturing, Tooling, Marketing and Sales. This position oversees all tactical R&D functions, keeping safety, quality, delivery and cost as highest priorities.



Essential Duties:




• Managing Configuration Management Analysts, Quality testing personnel and less tenured Engineers. (approximately four direct reports)
• Responsible for assigning projects, overseeing the Research and Development Department and traveling to Various Carlisle Companies to assist with R&D functions. Up to 10% travel required.
• Responsible for overseeing and approving New Product Setup, Engineering Change Notices, purchase requisitions, etc.
• Responsible for obtaining Mold Flow analysis, finite element analysis, material analysis, etc. from outside vendors.
• Responsible for Project Management, product design using Solid Works and tooling and processing evaluations
• Responsible for material specification, processing methods, project quoting, conducting feasibility studies for new products and working with material vendors to develop product specific materials.
• Responsible for the growth and training of subordinate Engineers and assisting in the development of yearly capital expenditures and operating budget.
• Responsible for conducting weekly project meetings and one on one meetings with direct reports.
• Responsible for communicating product specifications to Global Procurement division for purchase from outside vendors.
• Responsible for internal testing kitchen and testing personnel. Testing includes, new or existing product as well as competitive product.
• Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.
• Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description, and Supervisor's instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.
• Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and orderly condition to ensure safety of self and co-workers. Will report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate supervisor and Human Resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe conditions as the best of own ability.





Education Required:


• Educational experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field with six years previous related experience, a Master's Degree with four years previous related experience.



Skills Required:

The type of experience required to effectively perform the essential functions and responsibilities of this position are:


• Demonstrated excellence in CAD design and solid modeling
• Strong background in plastic materials.
• Experience in project management, development of timelines, and identifying critical milestones
• Effective verbal, written, and electronic communication skills
• Experience leading R&D programs from concept to commercialization
• Driven to achieve great results throughout the design and development process
• Passionate about the end user experience and ability to translate these needs into compelling design
• Ability to consistently earn and maintain the trust of teammates and external customers
• Able to bring vitality to the group innovation process
• Ability to work very effectively with limited direction on multiple high priority programs
• Ability to learn and teach new technologies and skill sets



Travel Requirements:


• Up to 10% travel, in support of corporate initiatives
