Job Description



This position is the subject matter expert for stamping press operations. A broad knowledge of stamping processes, presses, and tooling will be utilized to improve overall reliability and efficiency of stamping operations. Candidate will possess strong analytical skills, along with tooling design, and metal stamping knowledge.

Role Expectations:
The Engineer will be assigned the stamping press operations and will work closely with production, manufacturing engineering, tool and die, and maintenance to achieve operational goals; this includes troubleshooting of all mechanical systems and large-scale presses;
Reviews press operations and processes and looks for ways to reduce waste, increase efficiency and reduce need for down-time maintenance through lean principles and PM programs
Analyze and determine best equipment setup and process flow for maximizing processing of parts
Provide technical support and justification of investment involving installation of any new presses, modification of existing presses, repair and maintenance, as well as sustainability of presses
Proactively identifies and quickly resolves safety concerns.
Studying, evaluating, and re-designing processes in conjunction with production, manufacturing engineering, tool and die, and maintenance to refine and optimize processes, changeovers and setups to ensure repeatability in producing quality parts consistently.
Implementing changes and improvements to stamping presses and other machines
Perform problem solving, troubleshooting, and relentless root cause analysis of all breakdowns to minimize downtime, increase capacity and throughput while driving down costs
Update work instructions, standard work, and job instructions as needed to document best practices. Assist Training Manager and certified trainers in training Operators and Setup Operators.
Basic Qualifications:
BS in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Technology, or equivalent field. Significant years' experience may be considered in lieu of 4-year college degree.
Minimum of 8-10 years related experience in a manufacturing environment with knowledge of tool and die design, steel blanking press operations
Hands-on Knowledge of hydraulic systems, tool & die and machine tools
Hands-on Knowledge of press controls such as Link Systems and PLC/HMI
Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
Ability to conduct capacity and feasibility studies of press operations
Ability to conduct cost analysis of press operations to identify and implement cost saving opportunities
Ability to work with outside vendors or contractors as needed.
Proficient in various software applications including, but not limited to, Microsoft Suite applications, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Pro-E, Cad-Key, Creo, etc.
Demonstrates excellent awareness and understanding of health, safety and environmental requirements


Exceptional ability to build effective teams, coach and motivate others to high levels of performance.
Strong planning and priority setting skills
Strong Problem-Solving Skills, 8D, 5Y or similar investigation and analysis experience
Metallurgy background with hands-on Knowledge of sintering, hardened metals and raw materials used in the manufacturing of braking systems
