Job Description



The Die/Press Set-Up Engineer is responsible for the operation, set-up, changeover, first piece approval and maintenance of six mechanical presses. The primary responsibility is the supervision of the die set-up operations personnel, reviewing all work orders and determining which personnel to assign to perform each specific task, instructing personnel in proper procedures and quality requirements, and evaluating performance. Makes sure all work orders properly set-up and running in time to ship per schedule. This is a hands-on working engineer role, that in addition to managing/training our stamping set-up operation, will also perform die set-ups, insure plant equipment is operating safely and oversee production of high quality parts by Press Operators.


Setting up and performing all punch press work
Diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctions or recommend corrections
Responsible for setup, maintenance and operation of multiple punch presses
Inspect and approve set ups with guidance from QC
Operate, load and adjust press at or above established standard rate while maintaining quality standard of parts
Lead the training and development of set-up operators
Develops among assigned personnel a consciousness for the need for teamwork to attain department objectives
Supervises and directs personnel on shift in performing operations in compliance to sound principles and company policies
Anticipates and determines causes of delay in shift operations and takes appropriate action to meet schedules
Reports promptly to Management when delays occur, estimates time of delay and when operations will be resumed
Continuously improves the stamping department
Promotes a culture of safety and quality.



Must be able to do die setup and die protection resets at multiple machines, often simultaneously
Ensure machines are in appropriate and safe working order
Minimum 3 years' experience in punch press set-up (not CNC)
Must know how to use calipers, micrometers and gauges
High school diploma required, post high school training in mechanical technology or equivalent manufacturing industry experience, 4-year college degree desirable
Strong personal leadership and communications abilities.
Must be proficient in die setups and understanding mechanical press operation, feeders, un-coilers and straighteners
Must understand OSHA safety guidelines for mechanical presses, die setups and general industry
Proficient in the operation of mechanical presses
Knowledge of dies, related tooling and proper die set up procedures required
Good people skills required and experience operating in a team environment
Must be available to work Saturdays or as needed to support production requirements
Must understand material flow, basics of quality and have strong multi-tasking skills in a fast paced manufacturing environment
Must be willing to work overtime as required
