Job Description

The Product Design Engineer works with customers, Sales, Product Management, Engineering, Supply Chain and Quality to design and cost wire and cable products for manufacturability.

* Interpret customer specifications and industry standards/documents to achieve a manufacturable design
* Provide design solutions to support new product opportunities and existing product enhancements
* Understand company production capabilities in order to provide design and cost estimate to maximize company profit potential
* Provide technical liaison between customers and Carlisle IT development, sales and production personnel
* Work with established part number systems to assign proper part numbers to new products
* Improve and establish design procedures and utilize design and costing standards for quote and order processing
* Work with Supply Chain, Process Engineering and Quality in evaluating raw materials and suppliers
* Perform technical contract review
* Prepare product specifications sheets for sales and customers
* Develop, document and maintain product BOM's, routings and test plans for cable manufacture
* Maintain and control of customer specifications, governing agency documents and product specification sheets
* Represent company on industry standard committees
* Review work orders for accuracy of BOM, routing, test plans and revision
* Assist in related special projects

* Physical Demands: Standing, sitting, walking, reaching, bending, twisting, stoop, kneel, crouch, pushing/pulling, handling and feeling. Must independently lift, carry, and wield up to 50 pounds; must lift and move, with mechanical lifts and by rolling, 100 pounds or more. Must be able to work at heights; work around or with moving machinery; operate mobile equipment.

* The ideal candidate will have a BS in electrical or mechanical engineering; Associates degree with 0-3 years of related engineering experience in wire and cable industry considered.
* 1 years plus of data bus, fiber optic, high frequency, medical, or power transmission cable manufacturing experience preferred
* Computer skills, specifically MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint & MS Access as a minimum; Experience with CAD software preferred.

* Six Sigma black belt with training in DFSS preferred

* Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
* Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations
* Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures
* Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
* Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
