Job Description

Carlisle Construction Materials, a worldwide leading diversified manufacturer of premium building products and related technology has an immediate opening for a Continuous Improvement/ Safety Manager, at its Puyallup, WA location.
This position will manage continuous improvement efforts, safety programs and plant compliance requirements. The individual will work closely with plant management and will lead site safety committees and site continuous improvement effort programs maintenance, upkeep and will interface with Federal/state/local government agencies as needed.

Primary responsibilities Include:

  • Coordinate COS programs and initiatives such as: Managing Daily Improvement (MDI), Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Operational Excellence and 5S.
  • Partner with site plant managers and management teams to identify, scope and coordinate process improvement events.
  • Lead Kaizen and process improvement events and follow-up audits to ensure sustainment and completion of parking lot items.
  • Conduct COS audits and maintain status indicators and achievement level submittals.
  • Audit SQDC board use and training.
  • Attend required management team meetings.
  • Process manual (non-MRP) expense/material requisitions
  • Development and execution of COS training for new hires.
  • Provide reporting assistance to Puyallup facility.
  • Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.
  • Serve as primary advisor for site safety compliance
  • Conduct site’s new employee and temporary worker safety on-boarding training
  • Conduct timely accident/incident investigations and ensure timely reporting to plant management and corporate headquarters
  • Maintain OSHA 300logs and compliance records of safety and health programs
  • Schedule, lead, and be actively involved in safety committee meetings
  • Ensure that all corrective actions based on the recommendations of safety committee meetings
  • Conduct annual review of safety manuals and update as needed
  • Maintain HAZCOM requirements and keep SDS data current
  • Ensure that JSAs and LOTO procedures are completed for all new processes, materials, and equipment before use.
  • Keep records of all employee training, corrections of unsafe conditions, and dates and results of workplace inspections.
  • Submit necessary documentation to the corporate office for record-keeping including Safety Committee minutes, inspection reports, forklift inspection checklists, accident investigation reports, and near miss reports.
  • Ensure contractor compliance with company safety policies and procedures
  • Maintain regular strategic communication with Plant Manager(s) and EH&S Manager
  • OSHA Process Safety Management oversight and training (if applicable).

Qualifications:

  • Education – two-year college or technical school required
  • 3 or more years’ experience in Safety position desired
  • 3 or more years’ Continuous Improvement/Lean Manufacturing experience desired
  • OSHA 30 certification
  • Experience with computers and proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills required
  • Prior experience interacting with coworkers at all levels from shop floor to Plant Managers
  • Ability to act in a self-confident manner to facilitate completion of a work assignment
  • Prior leadership experience and ability to motivate employees
  • Strong follow-up skills and ability to follow through with high energy
  • Comfortable with presenting effectively in front of small and large groups
  • Ability to find a solution for or to deal proactively with work-related problems
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks under stressful situations
  • Strong computer skills
  • Full Performance Knowledge of:
    • Applicable government safety regulations and plant specific safety policies
    • Lean Certification from an accredited body
    • Technical ability to teach, coach, and train others using a variety of methods

Equipment Used:

This position uses the following equipment during the job duties: computers, office phone, cell phone, fax machine, and scanner.

Working Condition:

This position conducts their work in an office environment with regular exposure to manufacturing areas.  The typical shift is Monday through Friday from 8:00am – 5:00pm with some variation including the occasional off shift and potential weekend support. Travel will be required on occasions, with adequate advanced notice.

For this position, it is required to be able to do the following abilities: sitting, standing, walking, reaching, and lifting.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) used:

While working on the manufacturing floor, eye and hearing protection is required at all times. Other forms of PPE may be required as defined by management.
