Job Description


SUMMARY
The CNC Programmer is responsible for the programming of CNC production equipment. They develop and optimize the CNC manufacturing process to achieve efficiency and product quality standards. They support maintenance of the equipment and drive continuous improvement of the CNC operation. The role requires strong collaboration and organizational skills.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
* Develop CNC code using model-based definition and/or blueprints for multi-axis lathes and mills
* Analyze drawings and model data to determine optimal metal removal techniques
* Determine optimal tooling / work-holding
* Create detailed tooling and setup sheet instructions for manufacturing
* Create and maintain tooling documentation/library and tool life management system
* Fluent with inspection equipment. Able to validate first piece runs meet print
* Optimize post processors to reduce hand editing from program development
* Drive and support Lean/Six Sigma Manufacturing techniques in the shop including process mapping, set-up time reduction, overall waste reduction, and reduced variation between machines and programs
* Create standards for machine programs and trains appropriate personnel on methodology
* Coordinate and oversee program generation to ensure consistency and high levels of quality and efficiency
* Train machinists in use of new methods

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES
* Capable of leading project assigned resources for successful completion
* Leadership of CNC operator training and best practices

WORK ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS
This is an air-conditioned facility with many pieces of equipment that produce heat. The following are potential items encountered: fumes, dust, noise, hazardous/toxic chemicals. Appropriate training is provided and documented based on job placement that complies with OSHA and EPA regulations.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS
ASTM F--2412--2005, ANSI Z41--1999, or ANSI Z41--1991 rated safety toed shoes and clear ANSI Z87.1 safety rated glasses are required for the job.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
This role requires specialized training and skills. On the job training will be provided for certain skills that are unique to the organization including model specific CNC training and self-paced SolidWorks utilization. Prior to employment, various levels of directly related job experience in combination with formal certification or degree program are required:

* High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with 10 years of directly related CNC programming experience -- Candidate will agree to obtain CNC Machinist Technical Certificate within 2 years with opportunity for tuition reimbursement
OR
* CNC Machinist Technical Certificate with 5-7 years of directly related CNC programming experience
OR
* CNC Programmer AAS Degree with 3-5 years of directly related CNC programming experience
AND
G and M code experience required, Fanuc and Mitsubishi controllers preferred

SPECIFIC COMPETENCY
* Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
* Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
* Ability to apply algebraic and statistical tools for analysis of product and process
* Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures
* Ability to use of MS Office software including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint
* Ability to use project management tools

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
* Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear
* Frequently required to stand and walk
* Occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
