Job Description

Coordinates activities involved with procuring goods and services such as equipment, tools, parts, and supplies for the company.

• May be responsible for selecting and ordering merchandise for, office and/or staff requirements, basing selection on best price, quality, service and delivery.
• Reviews requisitions. Confers with suppliers to obtain product or service information such as specifications, tolerances, price, availability, and delivery schedule.
• Recommends or selects non-inventory type products for purchase through evaluation of testing, observing, or examining items to meet requistioners' requirements. Estimates values according to knowledge of market price.
• Determines method of procurement such as direct purchase or bid.
• Prepares purchase orders or bid requests.
• Review bids and negotiates pricing within budgetary limitations and scope of authority.
• Maintains procurement records such as items or services purchased costs, delivery, product quality and performance, and inventories.
• Expedites delivery of goods as required.
• Confers with department supervisors, production staff or end user to determine material requirements and to inform supervisors/managers of material status. Discusses defective or unacceptable goods or services with personnel, production and suppliers to determine root cause and corrective actions as required.

• Degree or a minimum three years of equivalent experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Appropriate computer skills to perform job functions: MS Office, Excel, Oracle.
• Ability to negotiate terms, costing, delivery.
• Prior experience in purchasing for a manufacturing environment with strong interaction at all levels with employees and outside suppliers.


• Must communicate effectively, both written and verbal English, to employees at all levels and with outside suppliers.
• Must possess excellent grammar and spelling skills.
• Must be able to read, write, analyze, and interpret general business reports, procedures, and/or regulations.
• Must be able to analyze purchasing reports.
