Job Description

The Business Development Manager for the Defense & Space Market Vertical plays a key role in achieving Carlisle Interconnect Technologies Inc.'s (CIT) aggressive growth strategy by developing new business along with growing and sustaining existing business at acceptable margins. The Business Development Manger ensures CIT is professionally and responsibly represented in the industry, and that our organization meets the expected level of service, responsiveness, and quality requirements of our customers. The ideal candidate will be apt in developing strong relationships, solving customer needs by leveraging the breadth of the unique CIT product portfolio, and developing and closing sales opportunities.
This assignment covers primarily the central region of the United States.


* Review, investigate, qualify, and develop new sales opportunities for CIT through appropriate proposition and ethical sales methods. Develop strategy, tactics, sales plans, and profit targets.
* Develop and implement strategies and actions to close sales funnel opportunities.
* Work closely with the inside sales team to ensure they are kept up to date with all relevant details on the accounts they manage, thus ensuring a high quality service.
* Raise the company profile and increase turnover of the product range. Build market position and increase market share by locating, developing, defining, negotiating, and closing sales opportunities.
* Achieve targets for revenue, profitability, and sales growth.
* Develop strong relationships with all levels in the customer's organization.
* Ensure that pricing and margins are at correct levels and that approvals are received in line with company procedures.
* Analyse market trends and customer needs to identify potential company resources, and coordinate sales efforts with product and technical experts to respond effectively.
* Travel extensively in the assigned geographical area to present and market CIT and its products and services to both existing key accounts and new business opportunities.
* Identify industry trends through research and related events, publications, and announcements; tracking individual customers and contributors and their accomplishments. Similarly, develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of competition and competitive products and maintain analysis of competitive strengths and weaknesses.
* Provide technical support to internal and external customers.
* Work with product management to specify customer and market requirements for new and existing products.
* Work with the product management and sales departments to analyse sales and go to market.
* Sales forecasting (annual and monthly).
* Experience utilizing CRM Systems (MS Dynamics, Sales Force or similar) to their advantage.
* Produce visit reports following meetings with new and existing accounts.
* Analyse sales and financial data and prepare reports, statements, and projections for reporting to CIT Management.
* Continuously and aggressively work with the product management and engineering teams as the customer interface to develop, improve, document, report and recommend solutions, improvements, and resolution for customer sales opportunities, commercial issues, and projects in process for successful completion.
* Attend industry meetings, conferences, trade shows, online seminars, plus other events, and also perform product demonstrations at these where and when appropriate.

* Relevant degree in Electrical and/or Electronic Engineering would be advantageous.
* Interconnect and assemblies experience required, technical competence of RF and Microwave products a plus.
* A minimum of 2 years' direct experience in a business development role, including all aspects of sales development and execution.


* Full fluency in written and spoken English, plus a high level of communications skills at a technical level in the language. Any additional language skills in European languages would be a plus but is not essential.


* Proven track record of building new business and achieving sales targets.
* Customer focused with strong interpersonal, influencing, and customer service skills.
* Driven, enthusiastic, persuasive, encouraging, confident and both others, and self-motivated.
* A positive and determined approach to researching and analysing new business opportunities.
* Excellent communication and negotiating skills.
* He/she should be able to manage and win 'project business' and major programmes.
* A commitment to continuous self-development, together with the ability to learn, understand, and apply new technologies and sales training and methodologies.
* Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial.
* Experience at working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential.
* Reacts to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently.
* Be flexible and accommodating during times of change.
* Ability to bring project to successful completion through political sensitivity.
* High competency level in use of Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, as a minimum)
