Job Summary:



Must be skilled on all toolroom equipment. Must work from sketches and blueprints to make machine parts and tooling for all production machines. Must be able to work with engineering and operators to do machine modifications and machine improvements. Must assist supervisor in maintaining sufficient levels of spare tooling.



Job Duties and Responsibilities:



•Operates tool room lathes, surface grinders, milling machines, and etc. to produce parts to blueprint dimensions.

•Operates hydraulic hand press to press carbide inserts into and out of cases.

•Trains and assists lesser skilled employees or toolroom machinery.

•Notifies supervisor of any tooling or supplies that need to be ordered or processed by an outside source.

•Maintain toolroom equipment and notifies supervisor of any necessary repairs or maintenance that requires parts or the attention of a more qualified technician.

•Applies algebraic and geometric formulas and standard tool engineering data to develop tool configuration.

•Selects standard items such as bushing and tool bits to incorporate into tool design.

•Draws preliminary sketches and prepares layout and detail drawings.

•Must communicate effectively, both written and verbal, to employees at all levels.

•Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manual.



Reasoning Ability:

•Must be able to comprehend and follow instructions.

•Must be able to understand departmental documentation and be able to process accurately.

•Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

•Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.



Additional Skills, Education and Experience preferred (Not Required):



•Prior experience in a work environment with strong interaction with all levels of employees outside vendors and visitors.

•This position may be subject to frequent or occasional interruptions that may cause a change in immediate priorities and/or work focus.

•While performing duties of this position, employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, reach, and/or bend.

•May be subjected to occasional irregular or extended work hours.

•May be subjected to occasional loud noises, hazardous materials, chemicals, etc.

•The employee frequently is required to us hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and speak or listen.

•The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

•Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.



Skills and/or Experience Needed: One year certificate from college or technical school.
