A Senior Mechanical Designer works under the direction of an Engineering Team Lead and/or Project Engineer to perform the following:

Manage and quality control for engineering documentation and best practices.

Evaluate and choose software updates, additions and improvements for CAD tools. Set benchmarks for implementation progress by coordinating workflow and balancing workload.

Routinely demonstrate the ability to access the Company product data management system to retrieve drawings that require review and/or change. Review complex drawings and layouts to ensure clarity, completeness, form, fit, function, and conformity to standards, procedures, and specifications. Identify design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies. Direct revisions and improvements to engineers or designers.

Retrieve component/assembly models from the product data management system and incorporate complex changes to features. Implement revised model elements to update component, sub-assembly, assembly, and kit drawings.

Concept, design, and model new components and assemblies using parametric CAD tools. Surface shape parts and utilize fundamental finite element analysis tools to analyze simple components.

Demonstrate understanding of complex metal fabrication and wiring diagram concepts, complete with advanced knowledge of mechanical fastener and hole design criteria. Capable of applying geometric dimensioning and tolerancing methodologies to ensure accurate and repetitive manufacturing.

Conduct complex parametric model resolution analyses to solve drawing format, feature, and table problems. Generate advanced documentation in accordance with Company and/or customer standards.

Investigate complex drafting practices required to facilitate the creation, storage, and maintenance of commonly used components. Define pertinent design factors to optimize materials, manufacturability, and interchangeability. Direct preparation of product design data, including component drawings, assembly drawings, and installation drawings. Interpret complex customer and functional requirements. Develop critical data and generate advanced layouts and documentation necessary to support customer presentations.

Communicates with cross-functional resources to establish understanding of customer's technical requirements and convey design capabilities, product performance, and organizational expertise.

Direct organizational improvement initiatives that involve cross-functional engineering team settings and responsibilities.

Provide complex training to team members and/or personnel in other departments.

Provides leadership, trains, and mentors designers.

When required, create and maintain project schedule, resources, and budget, which include the generation of milestones required to complete assigned projects.

Associates degree in design and drafting technology or related field of study with more than ten years of industry experience.

Robust knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. Proficient in drafting electrical/mechanical components and assemblies typical.

Knowledgeable with PTC Creo and Windchill applications.

Knowledge regarding aircraft mechanical and avionics systems a plus.

Strong MS Office skills: Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel.

Proficient in verbal and written communication.
