Summary

The Project Engineer will work as part of a team to develop new and innovative automotive refinish spray equipment. Key responsibilities of this position include researching, designing and developing, testing and documentation of new products.

Primary Responsibilities


• Design, development, testing, and release of new or improved products. Work with marketing in the successful introduction of new product(s) into the marketplace(s) by engaging in several and varied activities (design and detail of components, value analysis, cost estimation, prototype development, supervise the manufacturing of prototype products, laboratory testing, field test site evaluation, field testing and vendor interaction, etc.).
• Coordinate transition of new products into manufacturing / distribution to ensure production facilities are ready to produce and deliver. Work with Marketing Team to ensure that the launch is timely.
• Draft engineering projects, Statement of Requirements, schedules, work plans, and technical service manuals.
• Manage stage gate reviews, design reviews, and project schedules for each phase of the design process, including supervision of the project team when assigned.
• Test and evaluate outside sourced products as possible additions to the product line. Communicate findings to Sales and Marketing.
• Improve existing spray equipment based on design specifications derived from trade focus market needs.
• In conjunction with Marketing and Sales, administer Product Line Simplification (PLS) processes and procedures to improve profitability of existing products by leveraging economies of scale, reducing manufacturing costs, and lowering inventory levels.
• Provide support to Purchasing and Quality for current products, as well as new products.
• Maintain a working knowledge of the company's ISO quality standards to be in compliance with ISO Registration.
• Comply with company policies, ISO quality standards and relevant employment and safety laws.
• Occasionally travel to custom sites and other company locations as needed and as assigned.
• Perform other related responsibilities as needed and as assigned.




• BS or MS Mechanical Engineering degree
• Ten years product development and/or design experience in the area of mechanical devices, manufacturing, or application engineering, with at least 5 years managing projects.
• Experience designing molded components is required.
• Proven competence in 3D CAD required (SolidWorks preferred)
• Must be proficient with MS Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, ect. ).
• Must have mechanical "hands on" aptitude and be able to use hand tools and lab instruments. The ability to run basic model shop tools and equipment and the basic understanding of spray painting preferred.
• Ability to apply fluid mechanics knowledge, materials science, manufacturing processes and mechanical interactions in solving technical problems.
• Must have the ability to effectively communicate with other engineers, support staff, customers and management using written and electronic methods. Must work well in a cross-functional team environment.
• Open to occasional travel, both domestic and international. A valid motor operator license is required.
